What is Kratom?
Kratom (Mitragyna Speciosa) is a tropical evergreen tree in the coffee family native to Southeast Asia. It is indigenous to Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, and Papua New Guinea, where it has been used in traditional medicines since at least the nineteenth century. It grows wild where it is harvested for sale, and is farmed as well. Users of this botanical supplement have reported many benefits including a natural boost in energy levels similar to coffee (without the uncomfortable stimulation or edge as with caffeine), mood boost, increased libido, relief from aches and muscle soreness from activities such as exercise, and many other benefits. Even though there have been multiple studies done, Kratom is still in a grey area in the United States, and there has been much misinformation spread by media outlets. 2019 was a pivotal year for Kratom as there are many studies on this plant being conducted; the University of Florida College of Pharmacy being the latest. The University of Florida received a $3.5 million grant to study this plant!
We believe in the healing power of nature, and fully support regulating Kratom. This is an amazing plant, and it needs to remain safe. Retail stores as well as online vendors need to follow strict manufacturing practices to ensure the safety of all consumers. The first state to take a step towards regulation is Utah.
